This newly signed agreement allows for continued access by the majority of Humana’s current 3.3 million members and future enrollees across the country to SilverSneakers, the leading community fitness program for older adults. The contract extension reaffirms Humana’s commitment to help its Medicare Advantage members achieve their best health. SilverSneakers, available to most Humana members since 2004, provides a platform that motivates members to actively improve their physical health and make important and frequent social connections that are critical to a long and healthy life.

According to an annual survey of participants conducted in 2016, 91 percent of SilverSneakers members say that the program has improved their quality of life. There is also a significant link between fitness and social connections among SilverSneakers members, with 65 percent reporting that they have made valuable and lasting friendships due to the program. The 2016 survey also indicated that SilverSneakers drives positive behavior change – 61 percent of those who did not exercise prior to enrolling in the program reported exercising three or more days per week after joining. SilverSneakers has a Net Promoter Score that is consistently above 80, ranking SilverSneakers among the top brands in the world when measuring customer loyalty.
Using proven methodologies and in peer-reviewed research, SilverSneakers has been shown to increase physical activity and social interaction in older adults, resulting in higher quality of life and lower health care costs. SilverSneakers engages participants in strength training, aerobic and flexibility exercise with access to a variety of venues, programs and group activities designed specifically for older adults and in many cases fostered by members themselves.
SilverSneakers was founded in 1992 and is available to more than 15.8 million eligible members at no additional cost through the nation’s leading Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement carriers and group retiree plans.
